Contract Negotiations

Bargaining Blog Update #12: The FINAL update

The negotiating team is thrilled to report that Contract Negotiations are FINALLY finished! First and foremost, here’s a quick summary of the new tentative contract:

2018-2021 Contract Highlights

  • EVERYBODY GETS A RAISE!

    • Starting in the Fall, you will receive raises of between $1250 and $1300 for full time GAs. Part time GAs will receive raises that are pro-rated to their assignment. (ex: 10 hours = ~+$600 for level 1 GAs)

  • EVERYBODY GETS RETRO PAY!

    • Everyone who worked this past semester will receive a bonus retro check for their work. Full time GAs will receive over $300 (ranging from $310-$330), part time GAs will receive a pro-rated amount.

  • EVERYBODY GETS DENTAL COVERAGE!

    • In year 3 (2020-21) of the contract, the university has agreed to FINALLY provide dental insurance to all grad assistants, and will pick up the tab for 75% of the premium.

  • CLEAR, THOROUGH PROTECTIONS ON THE JOB

    • Consistently asked to work more hours than you’re paid for? Not trained for the job you’re doing? Asked to work on holidays? Need equipment? Told you can’t take a vacation? Don’t want to tell your advisor about your mental health? Now we’ve got protections in the contract dealing with these issues and many, many more, which we will use over the coming years to continue to improve our working conditions!

Next Steps:

Now it's your turn. This contract can only be enacted with your approval. Without your vote, we won't see a penny in raises.

Step 1: Get Educated

Join the negotiating team for an informational meeting on Thursday, May 23 at 4:30 pm in the Hardge Forum, Multicultural Student Services Center so we can walk and talk through the changes we’ve tentatively agreed to so you are fully up to speed.

Step 2: Cast your Vote

MOST importantly, if you want these raises in your pocket, you need to VOTE for them! You can cast your vote on Friday, May 24 from 10 AM to 4 PM in the Hardge Forum, Multicultural Student Services Center.

Will you be out of town on May 24th? Shoot us an email and we'll get you a link for an absentee ballot!
