Grant Fund Overview
The GAU Executive Committee has established the GAU Annual Grant Fund to support the growing financial needs of graduate assistants in their endeavor for excellence at the University of Rhode Island.
Funding is available for reimbursement of expenses directly related to the presentation papers or research, delivery of poster sessions, performance or exhibition of creative work, or other pursuits of a professional or academic nature. Funding awards are intended to help cover registration fees, travel, accommodations, the purchase or acquisition of necessary supplies or equipment, or other related expenses.
Awards must be used within six months of disbursal. The GAU executive committee reserves the right to withhold funds until any additional documentation requested by GAU has been submitted and reviewed. How to Apply
To qualify for GAU Grant Funds, applicants must be current Graduate Assistants AND GAU members. If you are not a GAU member, you may submit a signed membership card along with your application.
Applicants must complete the 2016 GAU Grant Fund App Packet.
Be sure to include the following with your application:
- Receipts for all expenses for which you seek reimbursement (copies are acceptable). Food is not a fundable expense, so please do not submit food receipts with your application packet.
- Documentation of conference attendance such as a name badge, program listing your presentation, picture of you with your poster, etc.
- Statement of Purpose: please briefly (~1-2 paragraphs) tell us how your attendance at this conference relates to your academic pursuits.
- Your signature and date on the application form. Must be a physical signature.
Additionally, applicants must notify the GAU of any additional sources from whom requests for funding have been or will be made, as well as the amounts awarded. If receiving funding from another source (Hope and Heritage, GSA, department, EPSCoR, etc), it must be listed on your application in the table for “Other Funding Sources”. Completed applications can be sent to the GAU office at 307 Roosevelt Hall, emailed to email@example.com or faxed to (401) 874-5147.
If your packet is not complete by the deadline (December 1st or May 1st), you will not be considered for funding.
Graduate Assistants are allowed to apply for funding once per academic year. In the event of too many applicants, preference will be given to graduate assistants who have never received funding from GAU.

Please apply for the grant fund AFTER the conference has concluded so that receipts can be submitted. Again, any items which do not have a receipt will not be considered for reimbursement.
Applications are reviewed twice per year.
Fall Application Deadline: December 1
Spring Application Deadline: May 1

Funding for Future Events
Assistants may apply for funding for travel or events that have yet to occur. However, funds will not be disbursed until after the event occurs and appropriate receipts and documentation are received by GAU.
